Peaceful Demonstrations
The Michigan Women's Historical Center has developed a learning kit
called "How the Suffragists Changed Michigan,'' which is designed to
help teachers show how social change can be brought about peacefully.
The resource contains reproductions of actual reports, newspaper
articles, posters, and flyers from the suffragist era. Send $10.36 plus
$1.55 for postage and handling to: Elizabeth Giese, 213 W. Main St.,

How To Enjoy A Symphony
New Kids on the Block, look out. Hershey Chocolate USA is offering a
free consumereducation leaflet to help rookie symphonygoers get the
most out of a concert experience. The leaflet, which is being
distributed to support the national introduction of Hershey's new
"Symphony'' chocolate bar, includes tips from leading maestros on how
to enjoy a symphony, and an explanation of symphonic movements and how
to identify them. To receive a copy, send a selfaddressed, stamped
business-size envelope to: How to Enjoy a Symphony, Hershey Chocolate
USA, P.O. Box 800, Dept. T, Hershey, PA 17033-0800.
Making Sense Of The Census
The U.S. Census Bureau has produced the "1990 Census Education Kit'' to
help generate community awareness of the census undertaking, give
teachers a chance to incorporate census education in the classroom, and
stimulate household response. Each kit, free while supplies last,
contains materials suitable for children in K-12 social studies,
mathematics, science, and language arts classes. The bureau hopes that
in households where the parents do not speak English, students will be
able to help their families complete the census forms. Each of the
nation's public and private school principals and school district
superintendents were to receive the kit in March 1989; if your school
has not received a copy, or if you are unable to locate it, contact:
U.S. Census Bureau, Data User Services Division, Dept. TM, Washington,
DC 20233; (301) 7631510.
