PBS presents Nomads of the Wind, a five-part series that follows the history of the peoples of Polynesia. The first episode, "The Faraway Heaven,'' targets the tropical islands of Tahiti and Marquesas, describing the original settlers, the domestic plants and animals they brought with them, and their fishing and agricultural skills. Other episodes explore Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Pitcairn, and Easter Island. The final two episodes will appear in May. Air time: 8 p.m. (EDT).

April 22.

PBS also features Water, hosted by actor James Earl Jones. This one-hour special explores how financial decisions worldwide affect the earth's freshwater resources. Scientists from Mexico, Australia, the United States, and New Zealand comment on the state of the world's water supply and the problems that arise from treating water as an unlimited resource. Air time: 5 p.m. (EDT).
