ATHLETICS
The Wendy's High School Heisman Award recognizes students who
demonstrate scholarship, citizenship, and athletic ability. Schools can
nominate two juniors, one male and one female. Officials from Wendy's
fast- food chain and the CTB/McGraw-Hill book company select 102 state
winners and 1,020 state finalists. Twelve students are recognized as
national finalists and receive a trip to New York City to attend the
Heisman Awards ceremony, where two finalists, one male and one female,
are named the Wendy's High School Heisman National Award Winners. For

SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
The Siemens Westinghouse Science and Technology Competition invites
high school students to enter its scholarship contest. Students working
individually or in groups of two or three submit original research
projects in science, mathematics, and technology. The contest, which is
sponsored by the Siemens Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Siemens
Corp., an electrical engineering and electronics company, awards more
than $1 million in scholarships. Top prize for an individual entry is a
$100,000 scholarship; the winning team splits a $100,000 scholarship.
